Higher Centers: You are Light - not Shadow
Peter Ouspensky taught that man is divided into two parts: his knowledge and his Being. The knowledge that Mr. Ouspensky is referring to is the knowledge of the Fourth Way system of awakening. For example: the knowledge that man is asleep and one of the several areas that keeps man asleep is his expression of negative emotions. Or that to awaken from our sleep, we need to self-remember. Our Being, then, is our ability in any given moment to control the expression of negative emotions, or to self-remember.
Knowledge of the System is contained in the lower self, or what Mr. Ouspensky called, the machine, (because nearly everything that man does is mechanical). Our Being, however, is not part of the machine. It is part of our Higher Centers. There are two Higher Centers: Higher Emotional Center and Higher Intellectual Center. In other esoteric doctrines, Higher Centers are called: the Soul, Third Eye, Astral Body, or The Beloved.
Many esoteric Teachings, including Plato’s, embrace the idea that man is born with a spark of the Divine, and that this spark is totally separate from the body. The meaning of life then is to develop this spark into a raging fire - a complete Soul, mainly through self-remembering and the transformation of suffering into consciousness, love, compassion, et al. Since the body stems from a mortal source, it is perishable. Higher Centers are Divine in origin. Therefore, they are imperishable.
Let us close this discussion on Higher Centers by mentioning several of their qualities and attributes. Higher Centers are neither born nor do they die. Therefore, they are ageless, timeless, immortal, inconspicuous, filled with Presence and Divine Wisdom. Higher Centers do not eat, drink, or need sleep. Higher Centers are content to be Present. They are simple, modest, silent, humble, emanating love, will, and unity. See what you can receive out of studying the image below, which is a vision of Higher Centers.
