Laws -As Above, So Below
Esoteric schools have created and perfected tools that allow objective observation and description of processes that occur on every scale of existence. When we speak about ‘laws’, we refer to cosmic laws, objective principles that govern the nature of man and the universe. From the dead and most unconscious material to the highest conscious existence, from galaxies, stars, suns and planets to the infinitesimal micron, all are subject to these principles. Thus the formulation ‘As above so below’. Through learning how to observe and apply these principles, our efforts to remember ourselves become more intelligent.
Two of these principles are the law of seven, or the law of octaves as it is known, and the law of three, the law of triads. The law of octaves is an objective method of calculating whether an aim or process is ascending or descending and where intervals occur. Triads allow us to observe how processes occur and how aims are met or missed. Both of these principles apply to our inner-world as well as the external world.
An octave, as we know from music, is a seven-note structure. do re mi fa sol la si do. Between mi and fa there’s an interval and between si and do there’s another. Mechanically, processes change direction at these two intervals. This is why there are no continually straight lines in nature. This is also why a school is necessary for conscious evolution. Schools bridge intervals. Students learn to observe octaves, learn what interrupts the ascending octave of self-remembering as well as how to interrupt the descending octave of negative emotions, identification, and so on. Without a school, at the intervals, the individual’s efforts to remember him or herself naturally deviate into forgetfulness, or imagination or a mistaken belief that conscious work is occurring.
Triads are how processes occur. There’s a first force,a second force, also called denying force, and a third force. As mentioned previously, all processes on all scales, from galaxies to microbes, from conscious to unconscious begin, maintain and end according to the particular triad that is active. For example, there’s the desire to remember oneself, the denying force of imagination or identification prevents this. When the appropriate third force appears, presence manifests. Without a third force, no process or change, mechanical or conscious, can occur. To the lower four centers, it's often an invisible element in the triad of awakening. Observing third force requires patience and a dedication to the effort of self-remembering.
When I wrote this post, the mi-fa interval seemed characterized by the need to rest and take a few moments away from the keyboard. Feed the kitten, read the mail, eat a snack. The si-do interval was about refining the post and preparing the image that I wish to have accompany it.
What was your third force for reading this post? When you started to read, where did the mi-fa and si-do intervals occur and what was the experience? What are the denying forces that prevent you from remembering yourself always and everywhere? What is the third force that inspires you to look for and enter a school?
