The Heart Of Kings

The Heart Of Kings

Of all the parts of the four lower centers that is least used and needed most for conscious evolution, it’s the intellectual part of the emotional center that holds the key to one’s efforts. This is not to say that the other intellectual parts of the other three centers are not necessary. But this particular part of the machine is the only part that possesses valuation for self-remembering and can make the necessary efforts to promote it.

“I shall not cease from mental fight, nor shall my sword sleep in my hand.” ─ William Blake

The intellectual part of the emotional center, also known as the king of hearts, due to its place in the ordinary deck of playing cards, is depicted with both eyes open, and an upraised sword, ready and willing to cut off any imagination or identification that impedes introducing presence. Notice too, that his expression is neither positive nor negative. His is to serve, as Walt Whitman phrases it, “with neither preference nor denial.”

Because the king of hearts is so rarely used, schools focus on developing this part of the four lower centers. Non-expression of negative emotions and transforming suffering strengthen this part of the machine. These two practices also provide the ‘launching pad’ as it were for higher states of consciousness.

“Men must be taught that beauty is a necessity.” ─ Plato

The king of hearts has an affinity for beauty and harmony in art, music, dance, poetry, as well as in relationships with others, be they acquaintances, friends, or family. Most of all, the intellectual part of the emotional center, has the possibility to value self-remembering above all else, and anything that ushers in the third state. Even so, without educating this part of the machine through school work, higher states remain theoretical at best.

Just like Moses being denied the “promised land,” or the classical invocation, “Thus far and no further,” the intellectual part of the emotional center does not and cannot partake of higher states of consciousness. In fact, the king of hearts is designed to fail, thus allowing self-remembering to emerge.

“The purpose of life is to be defeated by greater and greater things.” ─ Rainer Maria Rilke
